ewz baute 2019 seine Vorreiterrolle im Bereich klimafreundliche Energiedienstleistungen weiter aus. Schweizweit reduzieren 303 Wärme- und Kälte-Anlagen 55’000 Tonnen CO₂. Auch der Anteil der Stromproduktion aus erneuerbaren Energien ist gewachsen. Mit seinen 18 Windparks kann ewz ab 2021 die Windproduktion um 50 Prozent auf 1’048 Gigawattstunden jährlich erhöhen, was einem Drittel der verbrauchten Strommenge der Stadt Zürich entspricht. ewz erwirtschaftete 2019 ein Jahresergebnis von 189,8 Millionen Franken, wovon der Stadt Zürich 80 Millionen Franken überwiesen wurden. Somit weist ewz eine solide Kapitalbasis auf, um auch die Herausforderungen im Zusammenhang mit der Corona-Krise zu meistern.
